Oh my...
It has been way too long since I last posted! I have been very busy with the opening of school and playing my hand at amateur meteorology! Tracking those spaghetti models is so nerve wrecking, especially when the "cone of uncertainty" includes NO. In spite of having to "run for the hills", literally, I have managed to complete several ATC's. I finished the 6 for The Scrapbook Lounge swap: "La Vie Boheme", and should be receiving my first traded cards soon.

Yesterday, I finished my 3 for the "1-2-3" swap. That was extremely challenging. I thought it would be easy, 1 background, 1 picture, and 1 word. I actually found that to be very limiting, and was frustrated with the process. I first attempted to do a "watercolor plastic wrap" background. The colors were too dark and made choosing a picture difficult. I did use them later, just to see what I could do with them. (See Butterfly 1, Dragonfly, and Warmth)

I then used an acrylic wash and was able to follow the 1-2-3 pattern, but was not totally pleased with the results. I think they are okay since that was the rule, but would love to add a few things. Swaps are not as easy as they seem, and I am always second guessing whether they are going to be appreciated by the receiver. That's part of the challenge of sending them off!

I was actually pleased with the results of the three that I did with the watercolor plastic wrap. I think they came out fairly well considering the colors of the background. I will probably not use these in a trade, but, who knows...???

"French Women" is one of my favs, and it took me the least amount of time. Go figure!!! I was showing my friend Ellyn how to make a card, and the next thing I knew...there it was!

I was told that the best way to get over a crisis was to be creative: write draw, play music, etc. I have to admit that once I got started with the cards, I didn't want to stop (hence 4 hours of sleep last night) and can't wait to do more. When I evacuated I brought most of my art stuff with me. I have too much money invested to leave it behind. But next time (and although I want to think there will be no next time...I am already worried about having to leave for Ike) I will spend more time making cards. It really is relaxing and I'll have something to show for the time I was gone.

I will post the new cards this afternoon. I also went back and fixed the comments. Those of you who have told me that you tried to comment and could not should be able to do so now.
So, the words for the day are: Stress less, be creative!!!

1-2-3

I went a completely different way with my 1-2-3 Swap. I randomly chose three papers from my "yummy" paper stock. I assigned them 1, 2, 3. I picked three words from my magnetic poetry and assigned them 1, 2, 3 to the paper. I then picked one box of images (I have several) pulled out a handful of cards, about 10. From these I chose images for each word/paper. It was fun to have the limits, but also frustrating, because once I had the papers and words I knew a couple of pictures I wanted. But they were not in my "handful", so I did not use them. Hardest part...finding an image for the word "tantamount". I finally chose and image of Anderson Cooper in Africa, and cut it so it had Cooper and an African man in it. I could see that image as being tantamount to accepting or exploring something taboo, since he is an international figure, and let's face it, Africa is still considered to be somewhat exotic and scary. No idea if anyone else got this, but it worked for me. "Wench" got a picture of the girl from My So-Called Life, and "magnificent" got a black and white images of a european noble.
